Euphorbia Pulcherrima
The Euphorbia Pulcherrima, known as Poinsettia or Christmas Star is an ornamental plant of the Euforbiacee family of Mexican origin.
In nature it develops as great shrubs or trees reaching or exceeding three metres in height while in vase in general it’s difficult to find poinsettias taller than one metre.
It develops semi-woody stems in a brilliant green colour, the foliage is dark and the poinsetta’s big petals in reality named “bracts” are bright red in colour, smooth and wide.
Being easy to hybridise, today they are proposed in pink, fuchsia, yellow, white, streaked, variegated, doubled and curly bract varieties.
It needs strong light without direct sun rays and requires moderate watering, just to dampen the substrate that must never be completely dry.
